Cosmetic Dentistry – Not Just A Superficial Practice

Posted in Client Postings on January 19th, 2012 by admin / No Comments »

Author: Angel S Ortiz

Cosmetic dentistry is a form of dentistry that is quickly gaining popularity in many regions of the world. While traditional dentistry focuses on practices that promote oral hygiene and treating or preventing oral diseases, cosmetic surgery focuses on the improving visual appeal of a person’s mouth, teeth, and smile. Traditional dentistry focuses on the dental problems that necessitate treatment, while cosmetic dentistry focuses on the non-essential. This is not to say that cosmetic dentistry represents mundane or superficial concerns, far from it. Cosmetic dentistry operations may also be restorative in nature. For instance, dental fillings are a common procedure that people request to repair damaged or decaying teeth. In the past, these fillings were usually done with gold, silver, artificial materials, or other materials that left unsightly and easily visible markings on the teeth. Today, dental fillings may fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry, because you are able to select fillings made of porcelain or composite materials that match the color of your teeth, thus maintaining the natural appearance of your teeth and of your smile. Many people choose to replace older fillings with newer filling made of these materials to preserve their oral integrity.

Though this procedure may seem superficial and unnecessary to some, having your teeth repaired to look more natural drastically increases a person’s self-esteem and mental health. The field of orthodontics can also be considered a form of cosmetic dentistry that has noticeable effects on both a person’s self-esteem and their health. Teeth straightening is important for both children and adults, as using braces not only promotes healthy jaw functionality, but it also gives a person confidence in their smile. Technological advancements in the field of cosmetic dentistry have made the process more affordable and simpler to actuate. In fact, many cosmetic dentists are capable of doing most procedures in their own offices, eliminating the need for specialists and the extra costs that that necessitates.

Cosmetic dentistry has advanced to the point where many non-intrusive methods can be implemented to fix similar problems, allowing the patient a choice as to which method they want. One problem many people look to cosmetic dentistry to fix is tooth chipping and decay. Some of the various procedures recommended to fix broken or decayed teeth are inlays and onlays, composite bonding, and dental veneers. Also known as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are made from porcelain or other composite materials and are a very permanent and resilient, yet cosmetic method of providing a kind of filling to teeth with some form of structural damage. Whereas actual dental fillings require a second dental visit with an invasive molding process that is uncomfortable, inlays and onlays are created in a dental laboratory before being fitted and adhesively bonded into place by your dentist with only one visit, and no filling of your teeth with molding agent required.

Composite bonding is another form of cosmetic dentistry that restores the natural look of your teeth in spite of decay or damage with minimal intrusion or pain. A composite material with the look of enamel is applied into the cavity or onto the surface of the tooth, and then sculpted into shape and hardened using a high-intensity light. The filling blends in perfectly with the tooth, effectively erasing the damage. This procedure is usually the go-to by cosmetic dentists for repairing teeth after cavities, as the result is permanent and it requires minimal effort from the cosmetic dentist.

The cosmetic dentistry process of using dental Veneers involved bonding a thin layer of material, usually composite or porcelain, to your teeth. They are used to fill in cracks and gaps, and to help correct the appearance of discolorations. Dental veneers also include porcelain crowns, which are used to cover up heavily damaged or filled teeth to create a natural look. Dental veneers are also used in cases where other teeth whitening processes have failed. Teeth whitening involves using bleach or other whitening substances to permanently stain the teeth a whiter color, and this form of cosmetic dentistry adds a dazzle to a person’s smile and can help to erase damage done to teeth by poor hygiene, smoking, or drinks such as wine and coffee.

One of the most severe dental problems that people advancing in years face is the loss of teeth. Though dentures represent a cheap and permanent fix, they do nothing to alleviate the inevitable collapsing of the face that occurs when teeth are lost. This collapsing causes a person to look older and more unattractive. Dental implants are artificial tooth root transplants that are used as part of prosthetic dentistry to enhance a person’s smile and counteract this loss. This is a procedure that is a shade less intrusive than full mouth reconstruction, which is a form of cosmetic dentistry that not only fully recovers the youthful smile and jaw structure of a person, but can also be used to correct functional problems with your muscles, bite, and bone structure. Though this procedure requires much time, and a fair bit of actual surgery, its benefits are lifelong and can restore even the worst smile to a picture-perfect set of chompers.

Cosmetic dentistry in Grand Junction, CO is a field that is far from being solely about vanity or the mundane. Having crooked and discolored teeth makes a person uncomfortable to smile, which makes dealing with social situations more awkward and uncomfortable. Having a small amount of non-intrusive work done to improve your smile will not only cause more people to notice your brilliant teeth, but also improve your oral hygiene. One of the most important things to do, however, is to find an adequate cosmetic dentist that will suitably meet your needs. It is very important to first do research on cosmetic dentists in your area and read reviews of people who have had procedures done. The only thing worse than not getting a procedure done is getting one done incorrectly that leads to more suffering and disfigurement than what you were originally trying to fix.

New Modular Homes the Wave of the Future – Golden Villa Homes

Posted in Client Postings on January 10th, 2012 by admin / No Comments »

Author: Grant Smereczynsky

Maybe you have seen a portion of a pre-built house moving — hopefully slowly — along a highway to a site that a family will one day call home. It likely was part of a modular home, which offers builders and home buyers advantages about which you should know.

For years, modular homes have been confused with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development code homes, also known as “manufactured housing.” Unlike HUD code homes, which have a permanent chassis to allow towing to the home site, modular homes usually comprise several sections assembled on the home site. And like a site-built home, modular homes must meet local code requirements.A product of systems building, modular homes are constructed on an assembly line in a climate-controlled factory setting. Despite a lingering misperception of factory-built housing as inferior, these homes account for a growing percentage of new construction.

According to a recent study by The Freedonia Group, a Cleveland-based industrial market research firm, the amount of factory- or systems-built housing will grow 1.2% annually through 2005.

New modular homes account for one of every 10 homes built in the Northeast, according to the NAHB’s Building Systems Council. That region ac-counted for 29% of the nation’s modular activity in 2001. The South Atlantic region was a close second with 26%, and the Great Lakes region ranked third at 24%.

The most popular states for modular construction in 2001 were North Carolina, Michigan and New York.

A good many of the homes you see today — perhaps some of your competitors’ — are modular homes. In 2001, modular homes accounted for 3% of all single-family homes constructed, the BSC says. Outside of metropolitan areas, that figure jumped to 11%.

How They’re Made
In a highly engineered manufacturing process, modular homes are built in sections called modules. Once built, the modules undergo a series of quality-control checks in the factory. After the manufacturing process is complete — typically with interior finish on the floors, walls and ceilings — trucks transport the home to its site, place the modules on a prepared foundation with a crane and join them to the foundation and each other. While critics have charged that modular homes are too boxy, that refrain is beginning to fade with growing flexibility in design and customization options. Also, the emerging trend of hybrid modular panelized construction — adding site-built garages, porches and other custom add-ons — gives modular housing a fresh face.

Fast Construction
Some factories can build modular homes in as little as one to two weeks. The home’s arrival at its site and placement on its permanent foundation can be even more astonishing. In another two to four weeks, a local builder or contractor can connect the utilities and complete the home. “It takes approximately 90 to 120 days for the entire process, from the time the customer places an order until it’s ready for the family to move in,” McLendon says.

Saving Time and Money
Modular homes usually cost less per square foot — 5% to 25% less, one manufacturer estimates — than site-built homes, thanks to shorter, more organized and more predictable construction schedules. Aside from cost savings, buyers of modular homes also benefit from the accelerated on-site assembly time. The associated advantages — reduced chance of weather damage or home-site vandalism — make modular construction a smart choice for infill development.

The Comfort Factor
Modular homes are “overbuilt” to withstand travel from the factory to the home site, so they often are sturdier and tighter than conventional homes. They also make it easier to insulate areas hard to access in a home constructed with conventional building techniques. Reduced air infiltration and more complete insulation often make modular homes more comfortable than site-built homes while lowering heating and cooling costs.Increasingly, modular construction offers builders a competitive alternative that might be worth a departure from traditional construction methods.

Underbalanced Drilling – Precision Air Drilling

Posted in Client Postings on January 9th, 2012 by admin / No Comments »

Underbalanced drilling, or UBD, is a procedure used to drill oil and gas wells where the pressure in the wellbore is kept lower than the fluid pressure in the formation being drilled. As the well is being drilled, formation fluid flows into the wellbore and up to the surface. This is the opposite of the usual situation, where the wellbore is kept at a pressure above the formation to prevent formation fluid entering the well. In such a conventional “overbalanced” well, the invasion of fluid is considered a kick, and if the well is not shut-in it can lead to a blowout, a dangerous situation. In underbalanced drilling, however, there is a “rotating head” at the surface – essentially a seal that diverts produced fluids to a separator while allowing the drill string to continue rotating.

If the formation pressure is relatively high, using a lower density mud will reduce the well bore pressure below the pore pressure of the formation. Sometimes an inert gas is injected into the drilling mud to reduce its equivalent density and hence its hydrostatic pressure throughout the well depth. This gas is commonly nitrogen, as it is non-combustible and readily available, but air, reduced oxygen air, processed flue gas and natural gas have all been used in this fashion.

Overview of Concert Stage Lighting – Snob Productions

Posted in Client Postings on January 4th, 2012 by admin / No Comments »

Author: Dave Jenkins

A concert lighting designer’s job is to plan and execute lighting effects that convey a specific mood or concept, illuminate the performer, and engage an audience. With access to the best lighting equipment and knowledge of advanced lighting techniques, today’s concert lighting design has become very sophisticated. Concert lighting designers must be familiar with a variety of lighting equipment and often take years to master the art of lighting a large production. Below is an overview of some of the lights most commonly used by concert lighting designers.

Floodlights & spotlights are the two primary types of stage lights. Floodlights generally produce a wide beam of light that can illuminate large stage areas while spotlights produce and narrow, more focused beam of light. There are several sub-categories of both floodlights and spotlights as well as some lighting equipment that falls in between the two categories.

PAR (Parabolic Aluminized Reflector) lights are a type of floodlight often used for rock concerts. This lamp produces a large amount of flat light that comes from a unit that resembles an empty paint can. PAR lights are often used in conjunction with smoke or haze effects. The benefits of these lights are that they are lightweight, portable, and low cost.

Strip lights are strips of lighting housing containing many lamps. Typically, strip lights are used to illuminate wide areas of a stage, such as a back curtain. While colors for lighting are often achieved by “gels” or colored plastic that go over a light, strip lights use glass gels, or “roundels” to produce colored light. One of the main advantages of strip lights is that a separate electrical dimmer circuit can control each lamp.

LED Lights are another popular concert lighting element. Because this type of light uses light emitting diodes, or LEDs, rather than halogen lamps, they can produce lots of light while consuming less power than traditional stage lights. Popular with concert designers, these lights are able to produce a wide range of vibrant colors to create interesting lighting effects.

Spotlights are also essential to concert lighting equipment. They produce an intense beam of light that can illuminate an entire stage. These lights come in several varieties, each with unique properties. Fresnels are smaller light fixtures that produce a pool of light or a concentrated, but soft edged spot. Profile lights are most similar to what people associate with traditional spotlights. Their convex lenses produce a sharp light beam that can be formed into different shapes of an insert called a gobos. Finally, PC’s, or Pebble Convex lanterns use convex lenses with a pebbled effect that produce a concentrated spot of light with little “spill” outside the target.

An excellent concert lighting designer is familiar all of lighting equipment mentioned here in addition to much more advanced equipment. More importantly, they know how to plan and execute lighting for a 2-3 hour concert with the utmost precision and creativity.

Those who excel in the art of concert lighting have the privilege of working with top touring artists such as Motley Crue and Maroon 5. One example of a live concert video production company that is putting their name on the map is Daddy Van Productions, based out of Austin, Texas.
